A little history

Akebono is a pentatonic scale from Japanese music. Makers say it comes from the In scale, and the pentatonic that comes from In is called Miyako-Bushi, used on traditional instruments such as the shamisen and koto. Isthmus Instruments says the notes of the scale make a lot of dissonance, yet it pairs well with minor scales. Both makers list this layout the same way: F# ding, then B C# D F# G B C# D. MAG calls the sound deep, hypnotic and alluring, with an Eastern flair.

How to read a chord card

  1. The darker colour is the root; the lighter colour, the other chord tones.
  2. The line under the pan names the notes, root first, with their field numbers.
