D Sabye 9 handpan chords

Sabye is a bright major scale. Start with the i, iv and v: play each card's lit notes, then move to the next. The app has 49 chord cards for this scale. New to handpan? Read Handpan 101: how to play a handpan first.

A little history

D Sabye uses the seven notes of D major: D E F# G A B C#. The ding is D, and every note on the rim belongs to that one major scale. That is why the pan sounds open and happy, and why most of its chords sound settled.

Makers list it as a nine-note pan, so it is a bigger pan than the usual eight-note layouts. Different makers can lay the notes out a little differently, and this page shows one common layout.

How to read a chord card

  1. The darker colour is the root; the lighter colour, the other chord tones.
  2. The line under the pan names the notes, root first, with their field numbers.
