A little history
D Amara is the same scale as D Celtic Minor. It is D minor with the B-flat left out, so it has six different notes: D E F G A C. Saraz Handpans says "Celtic Minor" was first used for a handpan scale by Pantheon Steel around 2012. It says the name Amara was coined by Echo Sound Sculpture. Isthmus Instruments notes that some makers say Amara in place of Celtic, and that the missing B-flat gives a more open sound than D Kurd.
This page is the ten-note version. The ding is D3. The nine notes around it are A3 C4 D4 E4 F4 G4 A4 C5 D5. The nine-note Amara has the same notes up to C5; this one adds a high D.
How to read a chord card
- The darker colour is the root; the lighter colour, the other chord tones.
- The line under the pan names the notes, root first, with their field numbers.
